Top ACCA affiliate member Looi Pui Mun makes UUM proud

ALOR STAR: Bachelor of Accounting (Information Systems) graduate, Looi Pui Mun, made Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) proud when she was recognised as the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants' (ACCA) Top Affiliate in the world and Malaysia.

The success of the graduate from the Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz School of Accounting (TISSA) came after she obtained the highest average overall marks of 85.25 per cent for the four Strategic Professional Level examination papers she had sat for.

Looi had previously scored first place globally for her Advanced Financial Management (AFM) paper that she sat in Dec 2021; third place for globally Advanced Performance Management (APM) paper in Dec 2020; seventh in the world in the Strategic Business Reporting (SBR) examination in March 2020 and secured third place in Malaysia for the Strategic Business Leader (SBL) paper in Sept 2020.

The 24-year-old said she was thrilled over her high marks achievement, and did not expect to achieve the top spot for the ACCA programme.

Looi, who is currently working as a consultant in one of the 'Big Four' firms, expressed her appreciation to UUM, TISSA-UUM, ACCA, family and friends for their continuous support and encouragement to enable her achieve success.

"I am currently an ACCA Affiliate and need to have three years of work experience before becoming an ACCA member.

"I hope this success story will be an inspiration to Malaysian youths to pursue their ambitions. There is nothing wrong in having a dream as long as we strive to make it come true," she said.

Accounting program students at TISSA-UUM receive maximum exemption from ACCA through the ACCA Accelerate Scheme and they only need to sit for the remaining four ACCA professional examinations.

Meanwhile, UUM Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Haim Hilman Abdullah, expressed his pride in the success of graduates who put the university on the world stage.

"This success proves that the university can produce quality accounting graduates because of UUM's accounting program that is comparable to the world's leading universities," he said
