IPOH: The lower part of a human body was found by the rescue team in an operation to locate two hikers who were swept away by a water column in Gunung Suku, Jalan Simpang Pulai-Cameron Highlands today.
A Perak Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said that the upper part of the body was found at about 10.20am.
"The remains were found by the rescue team in a mound of soil after an hour into the operation.
"The remains was then brought down to the Control Post by a team of the Malaysian Special Tactical Rescue Operations Team (Storm).
The spokesperson added that it has yet to be confirmed if the body part is related to the left leg that was found before.
"The body part was found about 250 to 300 meters from the left leg found yesterday," he said.
Yesterday, the rescue team found a human limb believed to belong to one of the female hikers at 5.05pm, about 300 meters from the location where the victim was last seen.
It was reported yesterday that two hikers were missing after a landslide struck Gunung Suku.
The duo has been identified as See Su Yen, 30, and Ng Yee Chew, 46, both from Selangor.
Perak police chief Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said police were alerted to the incident at 6.50am and immediately launched a search and rescue operation.
He said during the incident, 29 hikers heard gushing water and a landslide on top of the mountain and returned to the base.
However, while descending the mountain, the group was struck by a sudden large water column causing the two hikers from Klang and Cheras to be swept away.
