KOTA BARU: Malaysians are continuing to stream into Thailand, with applications for border passes being snapped up quickly ever since international borders were reopened on May 5.
Kelantan Immigration director Azhar Abd Hamid said Malaysian travelers, especially from Kelantan, account for an average of 350 to 400 applications daily.
"Applications for border passes from those who plan to travel to southern Thailand represent about 40 per cent of the daily applications.
"The applications are made at all three checkpoints in the state, the branch office in Gua Musang as well as at the Urban Transformation Center (UTC) in Jalan Hamzah," he said.
Counters, he said are open during office hours and weekends.
Azhar said apart from applying for border passes, travelers are also applying for international passports after a lockdown of two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
He said despite the surge in the number of applicants, the issuance of travel documents at all checkpoints in the state are proceeding smoothly.
