KUANTAN: After successful collaborations in two dual-degree programmes with Germany's Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA), Universiti Malaysia Pahang is set to further boost academic ties through a third engineering programme.
After establishing academic cooperation in mechatronics and automotive engineering fields some 12 years ago, UMP, a member of the Malaysian Technological University Network, will now offer dual-degree in Electrical Engineering(Electronics) with HKA, among the best universities in Germany.
UMP board of directors chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman said the collaboration between UMP and HKA to develop the dual-degree programme in Electrical Engineering (Electronics) will go on to help produce competent engineering graduates of international standards.
"The collaboration to offer the Electrical Engineering (Electronics) dual-degree known as UMP-HKA will provide numerous benefits, especially in terms of academics, research, staff and student exchange programmes as well as industrial training.
"The academic cooperation between UMP and Germany's educational institution has successfully paved the way to introduce and develop the German engineering education model (Fachhochschule) into the country's technical education system," he said after witnessing the memorandum of agreement (MoA) signing ceremony in Germany recently.
UMP's Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology faculty dean Associate Professor Dr Hamdan Daniyal signed the MoA with HKA President, Dr.-Ing. Frank Artinger during the UMP delegation's recent visit to Germany.
Meanwhile, Abdul Aziz said the visit allowed UMP's delegation to learn more about the academic curriculum of the existing programmes in line with the latest technology adopted in Germany.
He said the visit was part of UMP's efforts to move towards digital transformation and green sustainability, especially in both the UMP campuses (Kuantan and Pekan) with focus on the sustainable development agenda (SDGs) towards campus sustainability and digitisation in line with future developments.
