Four dead, one severely injured in NKVE accident

KUALA LUMPUR: Four people were killed on the spot while another was severely injured in a two car accident which took place along the New Klang Valley Expressway earlier this morning.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said the accident, involving three men and two women, occurred near exit 104 of the highway from Subang towards Kelana Jaya.

He said they received an emergency call at 4.11am and a team of nine firefighters, led by operations commander Norsyuhadah Ahmad, from the Kota Anggerik station arrived at the scene at 4.23am.

A Fire Rescue Tender and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services team were also deployed.

"Initial reports showed a Proton Wira Aeroback had collided with a Proton Wira Sedan.

"The driver of the Proton Wira Aeroback and three people in the Proton Wira Sedan were killed at the location. They were aged between 27 and 31.

"Another 28-year-old victim, who was in the Proton Wira Sedan, was seriously injured. He was rushed to the Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment," he said.

Meanwhile, Shah Alam police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said initial investigations showed a 28-year-old man had driven the Proton Wira Aeroback against traffic flow on the highway from Kuala Lumpur to Klang.

The Proton Wira Aeroback crashed into the Proton Wira Sedan at KM 12.8 of the highway heading towards Kuala Lumpur.

"The Proton Wira Aeroback collided with the Proton Wira Sedan driven by a man, also aged 28.

"Both drivers, as well as two Proton Wira Sedan female passengers, aged 31 and 27, died at the scene.

"Another 28-year-old male passenger of the Proton Wira Sedan, who was seated at the back, suffered severe leg injuries and remains unconscious," he said.

Those in the Proton Wira Sedan were mutual friends and were believed to be headed for Penang.

Two who died were from Negri Sembilan while another was from Kuala Lumpur.

The driver of the Proton Wira Aeroback was from Negri Sembilan.

The bodies, added Iqbal, were sent to Shah Alam Hospital for post-mortem.

He said the Shah Alam police headquarters traffic investigation and enforcement department received a report of the accident at about 4am today (Saturday, June 11).

A probe is underway to ascertain the cause of the accident under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act for reckless driving as well as the deaths, he added.
