Vehicle falls into 30m-deep ravine in KK; one dead [WATCH]

KOTA KINABALU: A passenger in a four wheel drive vehicle was killed when the vehicle plunged into a 30m-deep ravine while it was reversing.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department operations centre officer Riki Mohan Singh Ramday said Bianus Asai, 67, died at the scene in the 10pm incident yesterday at the Bukit Kopungit Vantage Point in Jalan Bukit Perwira here.

The driver Genol Lopidi, 66, was injured and sent to the Queen Elizabeth I Hospital (HQE I) for treatment.

"We received a distress call about the incident at about 10pm, a team from the Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue station rushed to the scene to conduct a rescue operation and retrieve the victims from the ravine.

"It is learnt that the vehicle involved a Toyota Hilux Rouge, which had accidentally fallen into the 30m-deep ravine while reversing," he said when contacted.

The operation was called off at 12.21am, after both victims were brought out of the ravine.
