IPOH: A total of 787 candidates who sat the 2021 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination in Perak obtained excellent results, scoring straight A's.
Perak Education Department deputy director (learning sector) Rahimah Mohamed said out of the total, 17 candidates scored A+ in all subjects taken.
She said a large number of candidates who obtained excellent results consisted of those who took nine to 12 subjects.
"Perak's national average grade (GPN) for 2021 SPM is 4.96. Data showed that the GPN value for urban candidates was 4.95 and 5.01 for rural candidates," she said here today.
Rahimah said the Covid-19 pandemic and floods that hit the state had resulted in 1,998 candidates having to undergo a second session of SPM, which was held from April 5 to May 19.
"In Perak, there were 102 candidates with special needs who sat 2021 SPM. Of that number, two candidates obtained all A's.
"A total of 28,817 SPM candidates, or 85.71 per cent of the total candidates registered, will receive certificates."
The examination, which was held from March 2 to 29, involved 33,144 candidates, with 31,654 being school candidates and 1,491 private candidates.
