PARIT BUNTAR: All students who achieve an excellent result for their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations are eligible to be considered for admission into matriculation or foundation programmes at public universities, said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.
She added that admission offers are not limited to SPM graduates with 10As or higher, but also extend to those with an A grade in each subject taken.
"We will consider all these excellent students. The appeal will be as wide open as possible for us to accommodate and provide education opportunities for all.
"This is the Madani government's assurance, reaffirming our commitment that outstanding students will have their place in matriculation programmes, with cooperation from the Higher Education Ministry," she said today after the launch of an anti-bullying programme at the Kerian district level held at SMK Kerian this morning.
Present was the state education director Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Mahson.
Previously, the Education Ministry announced that it would look into cases of SPM students who achieved 10As or higher but did not receive study offers.
The ministry indicated it would collaborate with the Higher Education Ministry to conduct assessments based on applications submitted through two platforms; applications for the matriculation programme under the Education Ministry and through UPUOnline, managed by the Student Admission Division of Public Higher Education Institutions under the Higher Education Ministry.
"The move is to ensure that exceptional SPM students and those from B40 families have opportunities to pursue further education, while maintaining the existing Bumiputera quota system for the matriculation programme," Fadhlina said.
