Rent exemption for canteens, rented premises in government schools extended for 6 months [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry has agreed to extend the rent exemption for canteens and rented premises in government schools for another six months, starting July 1.

Senior Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin said the decision was made after considering the current economic situation and to assist the recovery process of canteen operators and rented premises.

"Hopefully, the rent exemption will benefit canteen operators and rented premises, as well as the school community as a whole," he said, in a short video posted on his Facebook page today.

In January, the ministry agreed to give rent exemption for six months to canteens, rented premises, book shops, cooperatives, laundry shops and vending machines in schools under the ministry's purview.

The exemption was initially scheduled to end this month.
