JOHOR BARU: The Johor Health Department has taken samples of the 'ayam gunting' sold at a secondary girls' school canteen in Batu Pahat, which left 90 students and nine teachers ill on Thursday.
State Health and Environment Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said results confirming whether the chicken was the cause of food poisoning would be released next week.
On Thursday, students and teachers of SMK Tun Aminah complained of stomach aches and suffered symptoms of food poisoning after consuming food and beverages sold at the school canteen.
Ling said while 99 victims suffered from mild stomach aches and diarrhoea, 11 of them had more severe symptoms, and were given outpatient treatment at government and private clinics.
He said all victims did not require hospitalisation. The school canteen had been temporarily closed since Friday and would remain so until July 11 to facilitate investigations and for a thorough cleaning.
