Lebuhraya Sultan Iskandar crash: Bus driver wasn't intoxicated, check shows

KUALA LUMPUR: Checks on the bus driver who crashed his vehicle along Lebuhraya Sultan Iskandar early this morning showed that he wasn't intoxicated or on drugs.

City Police chief Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim said the driver's blood sample has been sent to the Chemistry Department for a toxicology test.

The incident occurred at 12.55am when the bus, along Jalan Damansara headed towards Bangsar, overturned and hit the concrete divider on the left side of the road.

Azmi said preliminary investigation showed that the express bus, ferrying 24 passengers, was from Ipoh headed to Singapore.

"Upon arriving at Lebuhraya Sultan Iskandar, the bus driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the concrete divider on the left," he said in a statement today.

Following the collision, 19 injured passengers were sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment.

"Five other passengers and two drivers who escaped unhurt went to the Kuala Lumpur traffic police station to assist investigations.

"This case has been classified under Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.

He said those with information or inquiries can contact the Jalan Tun H.S Lee traffic police station at 03-20719999 or Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department at 03-20260267/69.
