Debris from rocket handed to the police

MIRI: An object weighing 27kg, believed to be debris from China's Long March 5B rocket that fell in Sepupok old town in Niah, was successfully recovered today by the Fire and Rescue Department.

Batu Niah fire station operations officer chief Rary Binjie said upon arrival at the location, the team immediately removed the 0.61m-deep object within 24 minutes.

"The object then was handed over to the police for further action," he said when met today.

Present at the scene were officials from the Malaysian Space Agency and the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry.

Yesterday at 5.30pm, residents were surprised by the discovery of an object in the form of a metal fragment.

The residents lodged a police report to allow an investigation to be carried out regarding the discovery of the metal fragment.

Another fragment believed to be from the rocket was also found yesterday in a private palm oil plantation belonging to a resident in Kampung Hulu Nyalau.

The fragment then was taken by the Atomic Energy Licensing Board for further action.
