Cabinet to discuss iPay88 cyber-security breach

KUALA LUMPUR: The data and cyber security breach involving online payment solution provider, iPay88 will be discussed in the Cabinet.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said it follows a proposal mooted to establish a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to probe the issue.

"We (the government) will bring it to the Cabinet because there is a proposal seeking an RCI. We will bring it to the Cabinet because it is a big issue," he said.

Ismail Sabri said this at a press conference after visiting the Pahang Pavilion at the Malaysian Agriculture, Horticulture and Agro Tourism Exhibition (Maha) 2022 at the Malaysian Agricultural Expo Park (Maeps) here today.

Also present was Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee.

iPay88 had confirmed a cyber security incident involving card data of its users.

In a statement, the online payment portal reportedly said that since May 31, it has been using cyber security experts to curb the issue.
