SHAH ALAM: Tablets under the Peranti Siswa Keluarga Malaysia initiative are being distributed to students in phases to prevent past weaknesses from recurring, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
He said in the past, issues about procurement had led to a delay in the delivery of devices to students.
"This happened during several former programmes (other than Peranti Siswa Keluarga Malaysia).
"Although only 100,000 units were involved, procurement for the programmes has yet to be resolved even after two years.
"This time, we have improved on the weaknesses," he said after the launch of the initiative.
Annuar did not mention the previous programmes.
He added that the distribution of the tablets was divided into phases for suppliers to meet the demand from the ministry.
"No supplier can supply 400,000 tablets at one go."
He said the gradual distribution of tablets would allow students from B40 families enrolling for their tertiary education this month or next to apply for the tablets.
