BALING: Up to 3pm today, 128 flood victims from 36 families are still at two evacuation centres.
Baling Civil Defense Force officer Lieutenant (PA) Mohd Faizol Ab Aziz said 94 victims from 30 families were in Rumah Terbuka Kampung Padang Empang, and 34 victims from six families were in Dewan Masjid Al-Huda, Kampung Hangus, Kupang.
He said because of the uncertain weather and their houses still deemed unsafe, the victims were not allowed to go home.
"They are advised to stay at the shelters until it is safe and there is no need to rush to return home for fear of a second round of floods.
"The Health Ministry and Social Welfare Department are providing health and welfare services for victims," he said.
Faizol said the victims were ordered to evacuate yesterday when the floodwaters were 1m deep.
"The victims moved out at 9pm when their houses were deemed unsafe due to the rising floodwaters and the continuous rain.
"This is the third time people who live near Sungai Kupang were hit by flash floods had to be evacuated," he said.
