Waja Squad volunteers aid agencies during floods

RANTAU PANJANG: The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry will deploy volunteers from its Waja Squad to assist government agencies during the upcoming flood season.

Its deputy minister Datuk Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff said over 300,000 individuals had registered as Waja Squad volunteers nationwide and some of them would be despatched to aid in various tasks arising because of the floods.

She said the volunteers will also be provided with advanced training in Psychological First Aid (PFA) before being deployed to flood affected areas.

"The PFA is community support intervention used for victims after disasters. We will work closely with the ministry's staff and the Welfare Department during the coming monsoon season.

"The Waja Squad members are among 7,000 volunteers who will be involved in the upcoming flood season," she said.

Siti Zailah, who is Rantau Panjang member of parliament, told this to reporters after launching the Go Digital – MPUK of Pasir Mas-Rantau Panjang area here today.

On the programme, she said the Pasir Mas-Rantau Panjang area was the third in Kelantan to organise the programme.

"It was aimed at encouraging traders to use cashless device in their business transactions.

"So far, about 3,000 traders have signed up for the project," she said.
