KUALA LUMPUR: The Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) is ensuring that rivers and drains nationwide are free of debris, keeping waters flowing with no hindrance as a precaution against year-end flash flood.
Environment and Water Minister Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said this was to ensure that flood victims do not face a repeat of the trauma and difficulty they encountered last December.
"The DID have strengthened bunds at river banks. The gensets (generator sets) at the water control gates were also changed.
"The second waste traps are still being replaced, whereas the first waste traps have already been removed (at rivers)," he said in a Facebook post today.
He said that trash and electronic waste should also not be dumped into the drainage system.
"The outcome of such careless activities may cause flash floods, owing to blocked water flow," he said.
