2023 Budget: Wage subsidies to encourage employers to hire OKU, Orang Asli, ex-convicts

KUALA LUMPUR: A three-month incentive of between RM600 and RM750 under the Social Security Organisation (Socso) hopes to encourage employers to hire persons with disabilities, Orang Asli and ex-convicts, and women to return to work after a career break.

Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said employment continues to be the government's main focus.

"RM150 million will be allocated and will see some 75,000 jobs. There is also a RM500 mobility aid for job seekers moving to other states and RM1,000 for a long-distance move," he said when tabling the 2023 Budget in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Since the MySTEP (Short-term employment programme) initiative was implemented, it has offered some 118,000 jobs.

The government would continue this by offering 50,000 jobs on contract basis in both public and private sectors.

"The MySTEP service tenure for the public sector would be extended to Dec 31, 2023.

"I would like to announce that MySTEP salary will be increased by RM100, which is between RM1,500 and RM2,100 from next year, compared with RM1,400 and RM2,000 currently."
