KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has advised candidates and supporters of political parties contesting in the 15th General Election (GE15) to adopt a sensible manner throughout the campaign period for the polls.
Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said Al-Sultan Abdullah reminded aspiring GE15 candidates and their supporters to continue exercising good manners as well as values by not getting themselves carried away with the fever of the election season.
The King, said Fadil, also advised the candidates to adhere to the election guidelines and regulations set by the Election Commission (EC) as well as the police and avoid any forms of smear campaign.
"Avoid any form of slander, acts of provocation and using words of insult to tarnish the reputation and belittle anyone during the election campaign.
"The king conveyed that such behaviours do not coincide with the good values upheld by the people in the country.
"Such behaviours not only deviate from the true path of humanity, but will trigger disorder and chaos," he said in a statement posted on Istana Negara's official Facebook account today.
Apart from the cooperation of all parties, Fadil said the king is of the view that respecting and upholding judicial institutions, parliamentary democracy system and constitutional monarchy is extremely important.
"The King also called on the people to pray for smooth and safe process of GE15 and that for the people and the country to be protected from all forms of disasters and calamities," the statement said.
Earlier today, the EC announced that Malaysia will go to the polls for GE15 on Nov 19.
Its chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh said the commission has set Nov 5 as nomination day and the contesting candidates will have 14 days to campaign.
