KUALA LUMPUR: A partially blind man, who wanted to contest as an Independent, was denied entry into the Titiwangsa parliamentary seat nomination centre today.
Habib Bourguiba Abd Hamid, 53, failed to submit his nomination papers as the nomination centre at SMK Aminuddin Baki Kuala Lumpur had already been closed.
The private sector retiree missed the deadline by a mere two minutes.
"I arrived late because there were multiple road closures on my way here from Kampung Datuk Keramat. I left at 8.50am.
"My intention is only to contest as an Independent and fight for the disabled and orphans.
"If I cannot (submit my papers), I will lodge a protest. It should be (up to the returning officer's) discretion," he told reporters outside the nomination centre here today.
Soon after, the RO Firdzaus Said met with Habib and explained that he could not bend the rules to allow him to submit his documents.
The Election Commission officer said if he was permitted to enter, he would be in trouble as the RO.
Habib insisted that it should be the RO's discretion to allow him to do so, adding that he was already nearby when the closing announcement was made.
Before leaving the venue, he said: "I will make this go viral. We will see the power of Allah.
