After DAP's Loke open apology to Sarawak, now Guan Eng apologises

GEORGE TOWN: DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke did the right thing in apologising to the Sarawak government and its people for any statement that may have offended them, Penang DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow said today.

The Penang chief minister said Pakatan Harapan (PH) was trying to form a unity government for the sake of the country and the people.

"So I think the (DAP) secretary-general did the right thing in putting national agenda above the party and personal feeling.

"And, we hope that this gesture by the (DAP) secretary-general will able to restore good faith, good feeling among the various parties in Sarawak in the DAP and PH," he said today.

Chow hoped that this would bring about the desired result of PH and other political parties being given the "blessing" to form the next government.

DAP had apologised to the Sarawak government and its people for any statement that might have offended them.

Loke, in a statement today, said he had met Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Abang Haji Openg at the latter's residence in Kuching, this morning.

After Loke's apology, DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng also posted an apology on his Facebook page.

"I apologise for my remarks that may have offended the Sarawak premier and the GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) Sarawak state government.

"The future of the country is more important.

"Let us make a fresh start to cooperate together to preserve the diversity, inclusiveness and unity of our multi-racial and multi-cultural society as well as protect our Federal Constitution for the benefit of all in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak," Lim said.

On the relationship between Penang PH and Barisan Nasional (BN) should both coalitions form the unity government at the federal level, Chow said the partnership at this moment focused on the national level, the formation of the national government.

"It is still too early to talk about other things. We need to adjust and get use to a new realignment of political forces in the country.

"At the national level, there are so many things to do. At the state, we have not come to that yet," he added.
