KUALA LUMPUR: Several areas in the Klang Valley were hit by flash floods as several rounds of heavy downpours occurred in the afternoon and evening today.
Putrajaya and Selangor Fire and Rescue Department spokesmen confirmed receiving reports of floods occurring in the administrative capital as well as Sepang and Klang.
In Putrajaya, several precincts reported minor flooding.
Putrajaya Corporation said the tunnel in Presint 5 was one of the worst hit areas, with the water level recorded at 0.5m because of the heavy rainfall.
"All road users who are heading towards the tunnel in Presint 5 are therefore asked to proceed with caution.
"The rise in water level due to the heavy rainfall can be dangerous for road users. PPj's special team are carrying out observations and will act accordingly to address such a problem.
"The heavy rainfall which began at around 2.00pm has also affected traffic flow in Presint 18 and 19 after a few roads and paths became flooded, though vehicles are still able to pass through albeit with caution," a PPj spokesman said.
In Sepang, floods occurred in Kota Warisan and Dengkil, while in Klang, Taman Meru Jaya was reported to have been affected by floodwaters for a short period of time.
In all cases, the spokesmen reported unusually heavy rains that occurred in several rounds, coupled with clogged drains, were behind the flooding.
