(Updated) Tracker dogs from K9 units in search for Batang Kali landslide victims overworked [NSTTV]

BATANG KALI: The K9 dog units involved in the search for victims of the Batang Kali landslide at the Father's Organic Farm here have been working non stop over the past two days.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Norazam Khamis said the tracker dogs had been working overtime to search for victims buried in the landslide.

He said nine dogs - six from Fire and Rescue Department, two from the police K9 Unit and one from the Army, had been deployed in the search operation.

Norazam who earlier said one of the dogs was injured later clarified that this was not the case.

He said all nine dogs would be used in the search operation today.

"The dogs need to rest...they have been doing more than what they should be.

"We have dogs from the fire and rescue department, police and also army involved in the search...we will be bringing in more in the need arises." he said.

The K9 units have become the darlings of the rescue operation as they are sent in to search alongside fire and rescue department personnel almost non stop daily.

The landslide which happened early on Friday morning has claimed 24 lives so far. The search, which has entered the third day, is now concentrated on looking for the other nine victims burried at the site.
