Fire leaves 14 in Kampung Pulo Ulu without roof over their heads

KUCHING: A fire in the wee hours of the morning that destroyed a house here in Kampung Pulo Ulu in Petra Jaya left 14 people from five families with just the clothes on their backs as almost everything else went up in flames.

A spokesperson for the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Services Department said they received a distress call regarding the fire at 4.22am.

The spokesperson said 22 firemen from the Petra Jaya and Padungan Bomba stations were deployed and upon arrival on scene, the operations commander informed that a semi-permanent, two storey house was completely engulfed in flames.

"Also burnt were a car, and the house was occupied by fourteen people from five families which include four children. The cause of the fire is still being investigated by Bomba's Fire Forensics Unit," said the spokesperson.

All the victims managed to save themselves without sustaining any injuries.

This is the second fire in the village in a span of nine days after five houses were razed on Dec 12 which resulted in 44 victims losing their homes.
