Fire at Tongod village leaves more than 150 villagers homeless [WATCH]

KINABATANGAN: More than 150 villagers were left with only the clothes on their backs after 44 houses in Kampung Pinangah, Tongod here were destroyed in a fire last night.

In the 7.20pm blaze, the villagers were unable to salvage anything as the fire spread rapidly due to the houses being situated so close to each other.

Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue station head Nurul Azlan Shah Jamalludin said a team was deployed to the scene after the station received a distress call at 7.24pm.

The village is located 174km away from the Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue station.

"Apart from the houses, one vehicle was also destroyed in the fire," he said when contacted.

Nurul Azlan said no casualties were reported and the team managed to control the fire at 2.30am.

"Investigation is ongoing to identify the cause of the fire," he said.
