Flood situation in Kelantan worsens; more than 25,000 displaced

KOTA BARU: The number of flood evacuees in Kelantan rose to 25,354 people this morning from 11,600 yesterday.

The victims, from 6,897 families, are now taking shelter at 133 flood relief centres in nine districts.

Except for Gua Musang, the other districts in Kelantan were affected by the flood.

Continuous heavy rain in the state also caused water levels at eight rivers to be above their danger levels as of 9.30am.

The affected rivers include those at Kuala Krai, Kampung Pahi, Kampung Tualang, Kampung Sungai Nal, Kampung Jenob, Rantau Panjang and Tumpat.

The water levels of Sungai Kelantan at the Sultan's pier and Sungai Semerak at Bachok are above the warning levels.

Floods also resulted in several roads in Kelantan being closed to all vehicles when the routes were inundated between 0.3m to 1m of floodwaters.

The affected roads include Jalan Kota Baru-Kuala Krai, Jalan Tanah Merah-Lubok Jong and Jalan Sungai Durian- Chenulang.
