Cyber security is everyone's responsibility, says Air Force chief

KUALA LUMPUR: Air Force chief General Tan Sri Mohd Asghar Khan Goriman Khan said safeguarding the country's cyber security is everyone's responsibility, rather than something to be shouldered only by the Armed Forces or cyber security agencies.

"We must continue to educate ourselves on cyber security. Only by doing this, can we be more vigilant and take the right steps in everything involving cyber usage," he said in his speech at the Siber Siaga 2022 programme today.

Asghar Khan was representing Armed Forces chief General Tan Sri Affendi Buang in officiating the two-day programme.

Meanwhile, Defence Cyber and Electromagnetic Division director-general Datuk Shamsuddin Ludin said people should play their part by observing how they use Internet on their daily routine.

"When some people think about cyber security, they look at the big picture, but it can be reflected in our daily routine.

"We are using social media, online banking and making calls every day. Some people are not aware that they could be exposing their personal details when they do this.

"It can be as simple as a selfie posted on social media. For example, when someone posts a selfie they took at their work desk, they may accidentally leak classified company files or personal passwords left on their desk.

"Therefore, we need raise awareness on the importance of safeguarding personal details so that they will not become a victim."
