PASIR MAS: Unlike other flood victims, housewife Norhaslida Abdullah has to be extra precautious when it comes to her two children when she moved to a relief centre here recently.
The two children require extra attention as one, a 10-year-old boy, has Down syndrome, while the other is just aged just 5.
The 28-year-old said she and her husband Mohamad Saiful Nizam had to take turns to take care of son Mohd Safwan Adam.
"We moved to the SMK Tengku Panglima Raja flood relief centre on Sunday after our home in Kampung Serai near Lubok Jong flooded early this week.
"My family and I managed to save our clothes and important documents when floods hit our village and this includes Safwan's diapers and other necessities," she said.
Norhaslida said she was glad that Safwan did not give them any problem and that handling him is not so difficult.
"Safwan is not like other Down syndrome children. It seems that he understands our situation and does not give us any problem.
"I am glad that my 31-year-old husband has helped help me a lot. My youngest child, Norashida, also seems to understand what we're going through," she said.
Norhaslida said this was the third time her family has had to move to the relief centre.
She is among 773 flood victims from 226 families who are currently taking shelter at the centre.
