KUALA LUMPUR: Netizens are questioning the security at Mederka 118, the world's second tallest building, after pictures appeared of a couple standing on its very top.
The pictures of daredevil couple Ivan Beerkus and Angela Nikolau were uploaded by the former on Monday night on SkyscraperCity.com, and made an appearance on the Malaysia community subreddit on reddit.com.
The thrill-seeking duo are known for their antics and death-defying stunts on the top of towers around the world.
It is believed that the couple used a drone to capture the images, after climbing the tower on the ladders inside.
"I was at the top of the spire. It was insane," Beerkus posted on the webpage yesterday.
He then posted in his Instagram about the climb.
"I heard many stories about trying to climb this building illegally. The saddest one was of a person who ended in prison for several months.
"There were many closed doors and CCTV cameras inside the building which makes it the most desirable building in the world," he posted.
The New Straits Times is checking with the police if an investigation will be launched following the incident.
It has also not been verified whether anyone has been jailed for attempting to climb the tower, as claimed by Beerkus.
In 2009, however, Frenchman Alain Robert was arrested for climbing the Petronas Twin Towers.
Unlike Beerkus and Nikolau, however, Robert is a rock climber and urban climber who scales the outsides of buildings.
The man known as the "French Spiderman" was fined RM2,000 for his stunt.
