BACHOK: The US ambassador to Malaysia Brian McFeeters praised the government, especially the Health Ministry, for the effective handling of Covid-19 cases in the country.
He said this could be seen in how well the Malaysian government managed to control the Covid-19 situation.
"The Covid-19 situation in Malaysia is very good and the Malaysian government has been handling it well.
"We at the US Embassy will always adhere to all standard operating procedures on Covid-19 set by local authorities.
"We also recommend US citizens in Malaysia do the same," he told reporters after the closing ceremony of the 'Preservation of Kampung Laut Rebana Kercing' project at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) campus today.
Also present were UMK's vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Razli Che Razak and deputy vice-chancellor (Academic and International) Prof Dr Nik Maheran Nik Muhammad.
Speaking on the programme, McFeeters said he was happy to see the progress of the project.
I am really proud to have collaborated with UMK on this project.
"This project is just one of many implemented projects under the US Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP). For Kelantan alone, we have carried out 11 projects and they include the cultural preservation of the wayang kulit and menora dance," he said.
The Kampung Laut Rebana Kercing project which began in 2021, was jointly initiated by UMK and the US Embassy.
The project aimed to conserve Rebana Kercing as a cultural heritage and UMK received a grant worth RM200,000 for it.
