Football fans fuming as only 59k tickets available for AFF Cup semi-final

KUALA LUMPUR: Youth and Sports Ministry is looking into addressing complaints of fewer tickets available for an AFF Cup 2022 match as a section of seats at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium had to be closed off to accommodate an upcoming concert.

Its Minister Hannah Yeoh said she was working to resolve the issue before the tournament's first leg semi-final between Malaysia and Thailand on Saturday.

"I have been briefed on this matter and have also talked about this with the Malaysia Stadium Corporation (PSM) and we are still in the midst of discussions," she said at a press conference at the National Sports Institute (ISN) in Bukit Jalil here today.

Also present was Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abd Halim.

Earlier, Malaysian football fans were left fuming as only 59,000 tickets will be sold for the AFF Cup 2022 football match between the national team and Thailand on Jan 7.

This comes after FAM secretary-general Noor Azman Rahman said 21,000 seats have to be vacated as they will be occupied by the structure of for Mandopop icon Jay Chou's concert stage, which was in the process of being installed.

The Bukit Jalil National Stadium can seat a maximum of 87,411 sports fans at any given time.
