PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia is set to be one of the first countries in Asia to launch drug prescription labels in Braille.
"I am happy to announce today that the Health Ministry will launch a new initiative that is practical - drug labels printed in Braille.
"Malaysia will be one of the first in the region," said Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa.
"The initiative will be implemented in 250 health clinics nationwide. It is expected to benefit 55,000 visually-impaired individuals.
"This label is to make it easier for the visually-impaired to not only get quick but accurate information about their medicines and prescriptions," said Dr Zaliha during her ministry of New Year 2023 mandate speech here, today.
Dr Zaliha said the initiative was also aligned with the Malaysian Patient Safety Goals 2.0 - Medication Safety: Medication without Harm.
