KUALA LUMPUR: A viral picture of a popular 24-hour convenience store cleaner using a floor mop to clean the inside of a microwave has disgusted netizens.
"Please brief your staff on the right way to clean. Even the floor mop is used to clean the microwave. This is so unhygienic," @AshrafChak tweeted without naming the location of the outlet in question.
It was later learnt that the outlet in question is located in Kampung Attap, Kuala Lumpur.
His tweet which was published 15 hours ago has received over one million views, and close to 9,000 people have retweeted it at the time of writing.
The photos shared showed an employee, clad in the store's uniform, wiping the inside of a microwave with a used floor mop.
7-Eleven has since issued an apology for the actions of one of its staff as depicted in the viral picture.
The apology was issued in a statement that was posted in the comment section of NST Online Facebook page's article on the matter.
"This was a clear violation of our sanitation protocols and is not reflective of the high standards we strive to maintain in all of our stores," the company said in a statement.

@NizamuddinNasir tweeted that the incident should not have happened and that there should have been common sense.
"Please report this matter to the convenient store for further action," he wrote.
"There are usually cloths available for wiping the microwave. This is outrageous," @mae_roar who claims to be a former employee of the convenience store tweeted.
"The employer should have a strict standard operating procedure in place. This behaviour should not be tolerated," @irzu09 said.
@79Myrul said: "I usually use the microwaves at the outlets to heat up food items like nasi lemak. Please let us know which outlet this is. This is disgusting."
"Action must be taken against this outlet and the staff concerned. I do not want my noodles to taste like mop water or shoe," @Asyrafflel wrote.
Meanwhile, others shared similar incidents that have encountered in eateries.
"Shockingly, I'm not surprised by this. I came across a similar incident while working at a government department. The cleaner used the same floor mop to wipe the dining table," @Kyrul21121666 tweeted.
@fa_fart said: "This is similar to MRT station cleaners who use the floor mop to 'sanitise' the chairs."
"People in my office used to dry their socks in the microwave. Some people have no common sense," @kakCharlotteJay shared.
