Gloomy weather across Pahang as number of Rompin flood victims continues to rise

KUANTAN: The flood situation in Rompin – the only district hit by floods in Pahang – has worsened with 286 people from 84 families evacuated today compared to only 97 victims yesterday.

A state Civil Defence Force (APM) spokesman said as of 9am today, four relief centres were operating compared to three centres at 8pm yesterday.

"Continued heavy rain yesterday has resulted in several low lying areas in the district to be inundated forcing more people to be evacuated. It is expected to rain throughout Rompin today and tomorrow.

"Thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected to occur in several other districts across Pahang today and all the rescue agencies are prepared in case of floods. So far, only Rompin is affected," he said.

Meanwhile, only Sungai Keratong's water level reading has breached the danger mark in Pahang while the yellow alert has been issued for five other major rivers across the state.

As of 9am, Sungai Keratong recorded a water level of 24.80m, breaching the 23m danger level.
