Fama receives 6,000 food kits from Nadma for Pahang flood victims

KUANTAN: The Pahang Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) has received 6,000 food kits from the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) to be distributed to disaster victims during the northeast monsoon season.

Its director Saiful Sadri said the agency has so far distributed 2,000 food kits under the first phase to families at flood relief centres.

"Fama has been tasked with the responsibility to supply the food kits to Pahang Civil Defence Force(APM) who will hand it out to families seeking shelter at flood relief centres across the state.

"The first phase has been given to APM and we expect the second phase to arrive soon.

"Each food kit consists of basic necessities and ready-to-eat food which can last between one and three days depending on the number of family members.

"The ready-to-eat meals, include rice along with chicken or beef recipes can be prepared instantly," he said when contacted yesterday.

Meanwhile, Pahang APM deputy director Mejar (PA) Mohd Zairosnizam Mohd Tarmizi said the first batch consisting 2,000 food kits was distributed to all 11 APM offices across the state.

"Each family evacuated to the flood relief centres will be only entitled to one food kit. Families can consume the food kit before the relief centre makes arrangements for cooked food," he said.

Today, 99 people were evacuated to two temporary evacuation centres after floods struck Kampung Tok Machang and Kampung Ulu Gali in Raub.
