ALOR STAR: The sun bear that attacked a firefighter in Sungai Limau, Yan, this morning has been captured.
State Wildlife Department director Jamalul Nasir Ibrahim said the 90kg female bear was captured at 12.50pm, after being shot with a tranquilliser.
"We had used a tranquilliser to sedate the bear before capturing it," he said when contacted.
Jamalul said the bear would be sent to the National Wildlife Rescue Centre in Sungkai, Perak.
Meanwhile, Yan Fire and Rescue Department chief Norhamidi Ali said the injured firefighter Mohd Nizam Hamid, 27, who was rushed to Yan Hospital, was stable.
He said Mohd Nizam was believed to have slipped and fallen while trying to capture the bear when it attacked him.
"He has undergone X-ray procedure and his condition is stable.
"We are waiting for further updates from the doctor on his injuries and probably he will be transferred to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sungai Petani later," he said when contacted.
It was reported earlier that a firefighter was injured when he was attacked by a sun bear at Kampung Selengkoh Tengah in Sungai Limau here this morning.
Mohd Nizam, who suffered serious wrist injuries in the incident, was trying to capture the wild animal that wandered into a paddy field near the village.
The firefighter was taking part in a joint operation with the state Wildlife Department to catch the sun bear following a report on the animal's sighting yesterday.
The bear was believed to have gotten lost and was trying to find its way back into its natural habitat in Gunung Jerai.
