TUMPAT: A police officer was killed after his car skidded and rammed into two electric poles at Km 5 Jalan Palekbang-Tumpat near Wakaf King here last night.
Inspector Chong Yeong Ren died instantly after suffering serious head and body injuries in the 11.30pm crash.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said Chong was returning home to Kampung Terbak from Wakaf Baru when the crash happened.
"The victim was believed to have lost control of his car causing it to skid before it rammed into the two poles at the left side of the road. The incident caused the car to overturn," he said in a statement.
Chong's body was sent to Tumpat Hospital for post-mortem.
Zaki added that the victim was attached to Tumpat district police headquarters for the past four years. He leaves behind a wife and three-month-old baby.
Chong's remains would be sent to his hometown in Klang, Selangor.
