Tunku Abdul Aziz remembered as a jovial intellectual

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Senator Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim was a jovial and an intelligent man.

His younger brother, Tengku Azhar, recalled his fondest memory of Tunku Abdul Aziz during their younger days of how a good storyteller his brother was.

"He was an accomplished individual and led a full life. When I visited him at the National Heart Institute (IJN), he was in high spirits and bubbly like his usual self.

"He was a brilliant man way above the rest. He was an intellectual, a raconteur, so he was good at storytelling.

"Being around him was such a pleasure… I used to meet up with him for dinner. During our time when we stayed in London, I enjoyed just being in his company," he said when met at Ar Rahah Mosque in Kerinchi here today.

Tunku Abdul Aziz, 89, who was also DAP's former vice-chairman died on Tuesday (Feb 7) at IJN.

The remains of the Kedah-born former politician were laid to rest at Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetary at 11.30am today.

Tunku Abdul Aziz's nephew, Tengku Azman Tengku Zainal Abidin, said his uncle had a stellar health record prior to his admission to IJN last week.

"He just celebrated his 89th birthday which coincides with Chinese New Year.

"My uncle has always been healthy and we will definitely miss him.
