ALOR STAR: Two brothers are appealing to the public to assist the police in identifying the perpetrator behind a hit-and-run incident that killed their 68-year-old mother at Batu 4, Tandop last Friday.
Ang Kwong Chun, 41, and Ang Kwong Loon, 39, said their mother Goh Gek Lan was taking her daily morning walk when she was rammed from behind by an unknown vehicle in the 6.30am incident.
"I was at work in Butterworth when I received a call from our neighbour at 6.50am informing about the incident.
"I immediately contacted my brother Kwong Loon to check on our mother, only to find her lying lifeless in a drain but no vehicle was spotted at the scene," he said when met at their home in Taman Bagan Jaya here yesterday evening.
Goh's body was sent to the Sultanah Bahiyah (HSB) Hospital for a post-mortem which showed that she had suffered multiple injuries at the back of her head and spine.
Kwong Chun added that it was their mother's routine to have a brisk walk every morning.
"We are appealing for anyone with information on the incident to assist the police in the investigation," he said.
Meanwhile, Kota Setar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Shukri Mat Akhir said based on initial investigation, the victim was hit by an unknown vehicle while walking on the side of the road.
"The autopsy results revealed that the victim had died from severe head injuries.
"Efforts are underway to locate eyewitnesses who saw the incident and to locate closed-circuit television (CCTV) recordings in the area," he said when contacted.
The case has been classified under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.
