Fifth former sits for SPM exams despite falling off motorcycle

GEORGE TOWN: Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidate, Shaikh Irsyad Albiari is determined to sit for his exams despite falling off his motorcycle on the way to the examination centre this morning.

The 18-year-old SM St Xavier student injured his left hand in the 7am incident.

Shaikh Irsyad's father, Husalmi Suhaini Shaikh Hussin, 47, said his son called to inform him about the accident this morning.

He said the accident happened at Bandar Baru Air Itam, 3km away from their home in Paya Terubong here.

He added that he immediately rushed to the scene and brought a first aid kit with him.

"My feeling then was indescribable as I was worried about my boy who will be sitting for his SPM exams this morning.

"As soon as I reached, he complained of pain on his left wrist. I immediately gave him first aid and wrapped up the injured hand. He then asked me to send him to school.

"My son told me that he was able to withstand the pain and that he could still use his right hand," he said.

According to Husalmi Suhaini, they arrived at school about 7.55am and his son was immediately accompanied by a teacher to the examination hall.

He took his son to the clinic for further treatment after the latter finished his Bahasa Melayu written paper about 10.15am.

"Of course I was anxious while waiting for him.

"Nevertheless, I am grateful that he is safe and able to sit for the exams today," he added.

Shaikh Irsyad is one of 19,501 candidates in Penang who sat for their SPM examination in 147 examination centres statewide today.
