Bangi most populous Parliamentary constituency

PUTRAJAYA: Bangi has the highest population among the 222 parliamentary constituencies in the country with 691,900 people, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia's (DoSM) latest Subnational Statistics of Parliament and State Legislative Assemblies (SLA) 2023.

It is followed by Kota Raja with 526,400 people and Subang with 481,100 people, according to the statistics released today.

Chief Statistician, Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin, said in a statement that the most densely populated parliamentary constituency is Wangsa Maju with a total population of 13,224 people per square kilometre (sq km).

This is followed by Pandan with a population density of 11,442 people per sq km and Jelutong with 11,361 people, he said.

For population composition according to the main ethnic groups, Uzir said the Setiu parliamentary constituency has a 99.6 per cent Bumiputera population followed by Hulu Terengganu (99.5 per cent) and Jeli, 99.4 per cent.

Kepong recorded the highest Chinese population at 72.5 per cent, while the highest Indian population was recorded in the Ipoh Barat parliamentary constituency at 25.9 per cent, he added.

"The parliamentary constituencies of Putrajaya, Gua Musang and Tumpat are the three constituencies in Malaysia that recorded the highest percentage of young age population, which are 37.2 per cent, 35.8 per cent and 33.5 per cent respectively," he said.

The young age population refers to those who are 14-years-old and younger.

He said three parliamentary constituencies in Selangor recorded the highest percentage of old age population namely Sabak Bernam at 22.4 per cent, Sungai Besar (19.7 per cent) and Tanjong Karang (18.3 per cent).

Old age population refers to those who are aged 65 years and above.

The statistics, the second series since last year, contains indicators such as basic information; population; housing; employment; household income; education; health; poverty; public safety; Internet and social media; basic amenities; the number of establishments or businesses and is released for all the 222 constituencies. — Bernama
