KUALA LUMPUR: The National Scam Response Centre's (NSRC) 997 hotline will soon be available around the clock.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the hotline service had been well received by the public and that it should be fully used to avoid being scammed.
He said some people still doubted the reliability of the hotline and assured them that 997 was being handled by NSRC and led by Bank Negara Malaysia.
"The aim to set up the hotline service is to mitigate the effects of scams by irresponsible people (scammers).
"The public should be aware of the unintended transactions made and call the hotline number to file a report so that necessary actions could be taken such as blocking the account and cash flow," he said at the police excellence awards event at Bukit Aman today.
Acryl added that through the reports, the officers could block the transactions made by the scammers.
At present, he said, the hotline operated only from 8am to 8pm daily.
"We will ask NSRC for the hotline to be made available 24 hours.
There have been requests from the public to extend the operating hours because some have, for example, called at 10pm and received no response," he said.
