Penang nominates hospital director, businessman as senators

GEORGE TOWN: The state legislative assembly today nominated Sungai Bakap Hospital director Dr R.A. Lingeshwaran and Nurul Izzah Anwar's political secretary Amir Md Ghazali to serve as senators for a three-year term.

This follows the resignation of lawyer Fadhlina Siddiq Fadzil and former chief minister Lim Guan Eng's sister, Lim Hui Ying, who were fielded as candidates in the 15th General Election (GE15) and won their respective seats.

Fadhlina, the Nibong Tebal member of parliament, is now the Education Minister while Hui Ying, the Tanjung MP, is her deputy.

The motion to appoint Dr Lingeshwaran and Amir was proposed by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

State legislative assembly speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang asked state assemblymen present in the august house if there were other suggestions. There was none.

"Since there is no other suggestion, the motion to appoint Dr Lingeshwaran and Amir is accepted," he announced.

Dr Lingeshwaran, 36, is also a trained mediator and chairman of Persatuan Shridi Baba Butterworth. Amir, 51, is a businessman and managing director of Amghaz Resource Sdn Bhd.
