KUALA LUMPUR: The "Malay Proclamation" movement does not represent political parties or cause racial provocations, says the rally's secretariat chairman Datuk Marzuki Yahya.
The programme, he said, was aimed to unite the Malays who were currently divided by current issues.
He said it was also held to raise awareness of the current political situation in the country.
"It is to provide a platform to representatives from various backgrounds, whether they are in a party or a non-partisan.
"We will continue this rally in other states should there be no more setbacks.
"(Former prime minister) Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad acts as the secretariat's advisor," he said at a press conference after the Malay Proclamation event at the Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia office.
The event was planned to be held in several locations but was cancelled by the venue management without any explanation.
Dr Mahathir accuses Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim of giving the order to shut down the event while describing the latter as being afraid of government critics.
The proclamation, written by Dr Mahathir himself, touches on the issue faced by Malays which causes an uncertainty over their future.
Some of the proclamations shared by the secretariat are that the Malays have never dominated the economy, and that their stalls have been taken over by other people.
Another is that the current fate of the Malays, and in the future can no longer be decided by themselves due to the negligence of Malay leaders, and that the Malay party in the name of race, religion and country has been misused into a party to enrich oneself.
Marzuki added that the proclamation did not intend to spark any form of racial provocation.
"However, it becomes a problem when someone creates bad propaganda towards what we are trying to do.
"It is a harmless proclamation which is why I don't see why they are so afraid," he said.
