Many touched by Lahad Datu intrusion reenactment

KUALA LUMPUR: A reenactment of the bloody intrusion in Kampung Tanduo, Lahad Datu tugged at the heartstrings of all present, and even Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was not spared, as he was seen in tears and wiping his eyes throughout the performance, which lasted close to 30 minutes.

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah as well as other guests were visibly saddened, during the performance which was staged at the 216th Police Day celebration at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre today.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof was also seen in tears throughout the reenactment.

Emotions ran high when the children of the two slain policemen, Assistant Superintendent Zulkifli Mamat and Sergeant Sabaruddin Daud, made an appearance.

The three sons of Zulkifli, Mohd Norakmar Amiruddin, 15, Noor Muhammad Aqil,11, and Noor Aqib Syahid, 10, were dressed in the 69 Commando Unit battle dress uniforms.

At the time of the 2013 tragedy, Zulkifli's wife was one-month pregnant with Aqib.

Sabaruddin's sons were Haziq Wahiduzzaman, 28, and Hareq Zafri,21.

As part of the reenactment, they had also draped the Jalur Gemilang and the Sang Saka Biru flags over the "bodies of their father."

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah also spent several minutes speaking to the children after the end of the performance.
