KUANTAN: The newly opened Kuantan City Garden which offers a colourful display of water fountains, will not be opened for breaking of fast activities during Ramadan.
Kuantan City Council (MBK) president Datuk Hamdan Hussin said the city garden located in the town centre in front of Teruntum complex would be closed to visitors between 5pm and 9pm during Ramadan.
"The city garden is the latest attraction in the state capital and was opened to the public last month. We are quite concerned about vandalism as some of the previous attractions including the clock tower were damaged after it was newly opened to the public.
"Although we have stationed 24-hour security at the city garden, it will be closed for four hours to avoid people from breaking fast. Besides the children's playground, the city garden also has lighting around the fountains which is a top attraction for visitors," he said when met after distributing bubur lambuk to the public at the MBK headquarters here yesterday.
The Kuantan City Garden which opened last month was previously known as the site of the Kuantan Recreation Club which was popular during the British-era. The city garden is open daily between 9am and midnight, and entrance is free.
Meanwhile, Hamdan said the public would be able to break their fast at other locations in the state capital including the popular MBK1 field located beside the Mahkota Square Ramadan Bazaar and the Sultan Ahmad Shah State Mosque, Serambi Teruntum in Tanjung Lumpur, Kuantan Esplanade(along Sungai Kuantan) and the open area below Menara Kuantan 188.
He said Muslims were also allowed to break fast at the Kuantan Art Street, which is located in the back alley of Jalan Besar.
"The colourful art murals on the walls of the buildings is an attraction and furthermore no vehicles are allowed to enter the stretch.
"We have several locations for the public to break their fast near the town centre so we hope they will always prioritise cleanliness and throw rubbish into the bins provided in the area," he said.
