Floods in Kanowit: 77 evacuees still at relief centres

SIBU: A total of 77 people, involving 31 families, from longhouses in Kanowit, near here, who were evacuated due to the floods, are still at the JKKK Ngungun Multipurpose Hall, which is a temporary flood relief centre (PPS) today.

The number saw a drop from 91 people when the centre was opened at 1.30pm yesterday.

According to the Secretariat of the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee, those affected are residents of Rumah Nyalong Indet and Rumah Suzusie Lily Jenau in Nanga Baloh, as well as Rumah Langong at Nanga Bat, all located along the Ngemah River.

Floods hit the affected areas yesterday following continuous rain in the Ulu Ngemah area.

The flood waters are reported to be receding. – Bernama
