KUALA TERENGGANU: Police yesterday detained three teenagers, aged 14 to 16, for allegedly stealing money from a school serving as a temporary relief centre in Jertih, Besut.
State police chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairuddin said the theft was discovered when the school management found RM3,200 missing from a safe about 7.30am.
The suspects, who were flood victims taking shelter at the school, have been arrested and are being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code.
In addition to the theft, police also received a report of a stolen motorcycle parked by the roadside.
"This is the second criminal case reported during the two-week floods," said Khairi.
The floods have significantly disrupted law enforcement, with the Kuala Jengai police station in Dungun and three police outposts in Pasir Raja, Felda Tenang and Tepoh among the police facilities affected.
