Former Klang MP Charles Santiago appointed Span chairman

CYBERJAYA: Former Klang member of parliament Charles Santiago has been appointed chairman of the National Water Services Commission (Span) effective March 20.

The commission said Santiago's appointment completed Span's commission member line-up for the 2023-2025 term.

"The appointment letter as the new Span chairman will be presented to Mr Santiago soon," the commission said.

Santiago was Span chairman from November 2018 to October 2020.

Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said he hoped the new leadership would help to achieve the goal of the Water Sector Transformation 2040 (WST 2040).

"I believe this line-up can drive Span to continue to be a progressive, proactive and respected organisation in the regulation of water services in Peninsular Malaysia and Labuan based on the members' experience in their fields.

"In facing challenges in the water services, Span, through its workforce and commission members, need to move in synergy to ensure the water services sector can be sustainable through strategic planning and intensive regulation and enforcement of the Water Services Industry Act 2006 (Act 655)."

He thanked former commission members who had carried out their duties with dedication.
