JOHOR BARU: Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi made a surprise visit to the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar here today.
Onn Hafiz, on his Facebook page, said he took the opportunity to meet Johor Immigration Department director Baharuddin Tahir.
Among the issues discussed was how to make MBike stickers available immediately.
The MBike sticker part of an automated border control system, similar to the autogates placed at all entry and exit points in country.
The system uses a radio frequency identification device (RFID) sticker attached to the holder's passport. It requires the holder to place their thumb on the reader before the gantry gate opens.
The advanced system will also be able to detect if there is only one person or a pillion rider as well on a motorcycle. If there are two people on the motorcycle, both will be required to scan their thumbs.
However motorcyclists have been complaining that the stickers have run out of stock.
Onn Hafiz gave his assurance that the MBike stickers will be made available to all motorcyclists at the Sultan Iskandar and Sultan Abu Bakar CIQ complexes from tomorrow onwards.
He also asked for the Immigration counters for cars at Zones A, B, C, and D to be merged upon its completion by July this year.
This, he said, would ease traffic flow and help with the congestion problems.
He also asked that the new 50 lanes project be added to the Automatic Border Control System (M-Bike) route to be expedited and for an efficient flow of shift change.
